定冠词就是the，用来表示“特指”。
1. 用于再次提到上文提到的或特定的人或事物
John bought a computer and a TV set, but there was something wrong with the TV.
约翰买了一台电脑和一台电视机，但是电视有点毛病。
2. 用于单数名词前，指具有某种特点的一类人或事物
The responsible teacher should be encouraging and motivating. 负责的老师应该能鼓舞和激励人。
3. 用于某些表示国家和民族的名词前
The Chinese eat with chopsticks. 中国人用筷子吃饭。
4. 用于表示宇宙中独一无二的事物的名词前
the earth 地球 the sun 太阳the Equator 赤道
5. 用于姓氏的复数形式前，表示全家人或夫妇俩
The Turners were sitting at the breakfast table then.
那时特纳一家正在吃早饭。
6. 用于某些地理名词、国家、组织、报刊等专有名词前
the Yellow River 黄河；the United Kingdom 英国
the Middle East 中东；the Times 《泰晤士报》
7. 用于某些由普通名词构成的专有名词前
the Great Wall 长城; the Great Lakes
