Pam Bondi, Attorney General: "The attempted assassination of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh was a disgusting attack against our entire judicial system by a profoundly disturbed individual. DOJ will be appealing the woefully insufficient sentence imposed by the district court, which does not reflect the horrific facts of this case." Roske, then 26, traveled from California to Kavanaugh's Maryland home armed with a Glock pistol, tactical knife, zip ties, pepper spray, duct tape, and burglary tools. He planned to kill Kavanaugh over abortion rights and gun control. He called 911 on himself before carrying out the attack and was arrested outside the justice's home. The district court sentenced Roske to just 8 years in prison. Prosecutors had recommended at least 30 years given he came within feet of assassinating a sitting Supreme Court justice.
